Great Wall Drilling Breaks The Record Of Ultra-small Borehole Sidetracking Horizontal Section in Sulige Area

The horizontal section of the side-drilling of the Su 10-51-X well undertaken by Great Wall Drilling is 1,217 meters long, setting a new record for the longest horizontal section of side-drilling in the Sulige area with an ultra-small well diameter of 118 mm.

In recent years, Great Wall Drilling has vigorously implemented 118mm ultra-small borehole side-drilling horizontal wells, using old well window opening and horizontal well side-drilling technology to increase the reservoir drilling length and improve the single well oil recovery efficiency to cope with the severe challenges of poor resource quality and declining single well production in the exploration and development of Sulige tight gas.

Great Wall Drilling coordinated drilling, geology, logging, technical services and other resources, gave full play to the advantages of geological engineering integration, and applied controlled pressure drilling, micro-expansion, wellhead anti-wear and other technologies during construction, effectively overcoming the technical difficulties such as high pressure loss of drilling annulus, difficulty in sand and rock, and easy leakage and collapse in the well. Using high-precision three-dimensional reservoir characterization technology based on sedimentary cycle analysis and single sand body configuration, the problem of drilling mudstone interlayers caused by rapid three-dimensional changes in the river channel was successfully solved, and the accuracy of the geological three-dimensional model was improved. During the drilling process, an expert technical team was formed to track and guide in real time, and the trajectory was adjusted in time twice, successfully avoiding two mudstone interlayers. Ultimately, the completed horizontal section was 1,217 meters long, 117 meters longer than the designed horizontal well section, and the sandstone drilling rate reached 100%, laying a solid foundation for the efficient development of low-grade oil and gas resources in the Surigu area.
